34th ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP GOLF TOURNAMENT - OLD RANCH COUNTRY CLUB
Our primary fundraiser is our Golf Tournament which will be held on Monday, September 8th at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach. We are in our 34th year of hosting this exciting event! Last year in 2024, we raised over $100,000 from this event alone for funding scholarships for local area high school students! Most of our scholarship recipients are the first to finish high school, let alone qualify for acceptance into our country's most prestigious universities. Most live in single parent households and have family incomes that are under established federal poverty levels. This year our scholarship recipients are attending Princeton University, Yale, USC, UCLA and other California Universities including UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UC-Berkeley and others. RONALD McDONALD HOUSE – HAPPY MEALS When called upon for assistance, our LAX Kiwanis Club provides volunteers to purchase and serve meals to families who are visiting with their sick children at Ronald McDonald hospitals. ANNUAL HOLIDAY BASKETS Our club members adopt families that are in the midst of difficult and challenging circumstances over the holiday season. We provide these families with items that are listed on each family’s wish list including bedding, blankets, food, gift certificates, toys, bikes, soccer balls, dolls, basketballs books, and other items that every family should have over the holidays. ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP LUNCHEON On June 17, 2025, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) hosted the 2025 LAX Kiwanis Scholarship Luncheon at the Flight Path Museum. The LAX Kiwanis Club was founded in 1954 and has awarded over a million dollars in scholarships thanks to their annual golf tournament. Twenty well-deserving high school seniors, along with nineteen renewal applicants, were recognized and awarded over $100,000. 95% of these students come from low income, single parent households, most of them are top ranked students in the class (many with GPAs over 4.0). Many have been accepted into some of our nation’s most prestigious universities including Yale, Princeton, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC & other top ranked universities. The scholarship opportunity not only provides financial assistance, but also the chance for students to engage with community and civic leaders. Like the Kiwanis Club, LAWA is committed to improving and supporting our neighborhoods while connecting communities. Congratulations to all of the scholarship winners on this extraordinary achievement! ANNUAL YMCA CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS Every year, our Kiwanis club members and sponsors will send up to 20 elementary aged school children to attend a weeklong camp experience up in big Bear Lake California. Many in this group of campers come from high crime rate neighborhoods, single parent and low- income households and rarely get an opportunity to get out of their neighborhood during the summer months. These lucky children are recommended by the school administration and teachers at their local elementary schools. Our LAX Kiwanis Club partners with throughout the year to help those families that find themselves in difficult, challenging, and desperate situations. BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING SPREE Every August we invite 15+ children in need from Westport Heights Elementary School in Westchester, CA to go on a shopping spree at a local department store in Westchester. Each child is assigned a Kiwanis Volunteer to help them pick out school uniforms and other back-to-school items. This past year each child was given an allowance of $150! |
